River bank protection with geotextile bag and geotextile

River bank erosion is one of the major issues in the present days in India. Due to climate change in the earth, massive devastating flood occurs every year and its result huge land erode day by day. These things directly effect on land loss, property loss, losses of hoses. Protecting the river bank from erosion not very tough or not easy. Permanent river bank erosion control is very difficult. We control riverbank erosion with many conventional methods like boulder pitching on bank slope, tarza mat pitching, empty cement bag pitching, bamboo porcupine, wood piling and many more. But those are not sustainable structures. In the present day, there is many newly river bank protection technologies are available worldwide. River bank protection with geotextile bag and geotextile is one of them.

With the increase of the popularity of geosynthetics products in the infrastructure projects, geotextile and geotextile bags are using as a very common material for river training or river bank protection. In India Central Water Commission (CWC) refers to use geotextile and geotextile bags for protecting Indian rivers like Bamhaputra, Ganga, Koshi, Tista, Ranganadi, Subanshri and many more. River bank protection with geotextile bag are used by many states of India, especially Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha.

In this project geosynthetics products like Nonwoven geotextile, Geotextile bag of size 1 m x 0.7 m, Steel Gabion size 2 m x 1 m x 0.45 m
In this project, Nonwoven Geotextile is used as filter media at the slope. Geotextile bag used as slope pitching and apron construction and Geotextile bag filled Steel gabion is used as Toe key and Peripheral key. Locally available sand from the sand bar is used as infill material in Geotextile bag.
The bank slope is profiled as 2:1 and apron is constructed underwater with boat dumping of geotextile bag.
